We've taken one of our favorite southern staples and put together this Spicy Honey Chicken & Waffle Casserole recipe that is every bit savory as it is sweet. This dish is a perfect brunch item and will also have your next dinner party guests wondering how you created such a unique and delicious appetizer. Serve with a side of pure maple syrup for dipping to really bring this chicken and waffle casserole together.
Ingredients
- 6 Kodiak Cakes Homestyle Frozen Waffles
- 6 eggs
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/3 cup hot sauce
- 1/4 cup cheese, shredded, plus extra for garnish
- 2 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 cup cheese, shredded, plus extra for garnish
- 1.5 lb. bag frozen chicken tenders, cooked according to directions and cut into 1" cubes
- 1 tablespoon green onions, chopped
Directions
- Heat the oven to 400 F
- Grease a 9x9" casserole dish or cast iron pan.
- Toast waffles on the lowest setting until crispy and hot. Cut the waffles into 1" cubes.
- Mix the eggs, milk, hot sauce, cheese, honey, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Layer the chicken and waffles in the pan.
- Pour in the liquid mixture. Let the casserole sit for 30 minutes.
- Sprinkle the extra shredded cheese over the top of the casserole.
- Cover with foil and bake for 30-40 minutes. Remove foil during the last 2-3 minutes until cheese is browned.
- Garnish with green onions before serving.
