KODIAK CAKES SUPER BOWL MATCHUP

We all know you can’t play football on an empty stomach, but the truth is it’s not that fun to watch it on one, either. Much like the Turkey Bowl at Thanksgiving, Super Bowl Sunday is meant for good football and great food. We’re mixing things up for this year’s Super Bowl matchup with a contest of our own: Kodiak Cakes flapjacks vs. Kodiak Cakes waffles. Find out who will take home this year’s Super Bowl title as each team dishes out points in the recipes below. Who knows? You may even find a recipe or two to make during the big game!

BREAKFAST NACHOS

Team Waffles comes in hot for a quick 7-0 lead in the first quarter using our recipe for Kodiak Cakes Breakfast Nachos. These nachos are a great pre-game meal to fuel all the positive vibes you’ll be sending your favorite Super Bowl team before kick-off. We’re subbing chips with Kodiak Cakes Toaster Waffles and nacho cheese with cheddar and sour cream. Sprinkle your nachos with bacon, avocado, scallions, cilantro, and sliced jalapeño for the perfect kick to wake up your taste buds. We suggest topping things off with a couple of fried eggs and a drizzle of maple syrup for that extra point!

CHEDDAR CRACKERS & GARLIC HERB DIP

Team Waffles does not hold the lead for long. Team Flapjacks quickly ties the game at 7-7 by mixing together just four ingredients to make a bowl of Cheddar Crackers using Kodiak Cakes Whole Wheat Oat & Honey Flapjack & Waffle Mix. Easy to make and quick to bake, these healthy crackers will help keep your tummy from rumbling during the big game. They are best served with a side like our Garlic Herb Dip—see recipe for details.

PANCAKE KIDS IN A BLANKET

When meal time arrives, rush over to the dinner line for some Pancake Pigs in a Blanket. Crafted with our Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes, this recipe lands the pigskin in the end zone to put Team Flapjacks ahead 14-7. Each pig is wrapped in a blanket of 100% whole grains and protein to keep you feeling strong through the end of the game. We like to keep things sweet by dipping our pigs in a blanket in maple syrup—but you can even mix it up with some classic game-day dipping sauces like ketchup or mustard.

CHICKEN & WAFFLE SLIDERS

The next play in this year’s Super Bowl breakfast showdown uses Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes to bring you a play action that will tie the game 14-14. The pancake batter mixed to make what you think will be flapjacks is actually poured onto a hot waffle iron to complete our recipe for Chicken & Waffle Sliders. When the whistle sounds for dinner, dip your chicken in maple syrup and sandwich between two waffles—you’ll have yourself a breakfast slider for champions!

Pro tip: For a healthier option, we suggest baking your chicken on a sheet pan at 400° for 10-15 minutes. Flip, and continue baking for another 10 minutes.

FOOTBALL WHOOPIE PIES

Team Flapjack comes in clutch to win the game 21-14 with our recipe for Kodiak Cakes Football Whoopie Pies! Each whoopie pie is packed with whole grains and protein from Kodiak Cakes Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix to power Team Flapjacks through Team Waffles’ defense and into the end zone; although, Team Waffles claims to have been distracted by the sweet smell of chocolate. This recipe is sure to be a crowd pleaser at your Super Bowl party!
