There are few trips that compare to one spent escaping deep into the wilderness, sitting around a campfire with your favorite bears, and sleeping in a tent. At Kodiak Cakes, our favorite part about a good camping trip is, of course, the food. Some may think that cooking in the great outdoors is really hard, but the truth is, with a little creativity it’s actually pretty simple! Here are three easy camping recipes you can try on your next outdoor adventure, and a few key kitchen items you won’t want to forget (in addition to essential camping kitchen items like utensils, plate sets, a cooler, and firewood).
When it comes to a simple, but filling breakfast while out in the wilderness, our go-to option is oatmeal. We created this Camp Stove Oatmeal recipe to help make breakfast in the outdoors easy on you. Whether you plan to backpack for a few days or set up camp just outside the car, Kodiak Cakes Oatmeal Packets are easy to pack and even easier to make. We suggest loading your camping pot with four oatmeal packets to have plenty of breakfast to share around the campfire. Top with diced apples and trail mix for an extra boost of nutrition to take on the day’s adventures.

Orange Peel Blueberry Muffins
If there’s one part of an orange most people do not enjoy eating, it’s the peel. But don’t let that keep you from trying this Orange Peel Blueberry Muffins recipe because we’re only using orange peels in place of a muffin tin. Simply slice your oranges in half and carefully hallow out the inside with a spoon; and, don’t forget to save the oranges for a quick refreshing snack later on. When your orange peel muffins are ready to bake, wrap them in a couple layers of tin foil and use a pair of tongs to place each one over hot coals in your campfire to cook for about 10 minutes. Try this with any of our muffin mixes for a creative breakfast or snack on all your summer camping trips.

Campfire Cornbread Chili
After a long day exploring high mountain lakes or vast desert wilderness, there’s nothing quite like finishing the day with a bowl of our Campfire Cornbread Chili. This camp recipe is best cooked in a cast iron pot over a campfire, but don’t worry if all you have is a heat-safe camping pot and grill — just add a few minutes cook time. Before you leave on your trip, we suggest you measure and combine the recipes spices together in a small container, strain and rinse the canned beans and combine them into a large jar (don’t forget to store them in your cooler), and dice your onion in advance to reduce prep time. Some of our favorite toppings include shredded cheese, sour cream, and chives.
