How Kodiak Cakes fit into my WW (Weight Watchers® reimagined) journey and can fit into yours too!

Weight Watchers x Kodiak Cakes_mixing together recipe

My love affair with Kodiak Cakes began in February of 2017…so, I guess this is a happy anniversary to us! In 2017, I set out on my very own WW journey and I can honestly say I ate Kodiak Cakes almost daily during my 40lb weight loss journey.

Kodiak Cakes products have been a part of my health and wellness journey from very early on. Why? It’s pretty simple — they are a protein-packed, filling option, that helps me stay on track with my WW goals.

Kodiak Cakes’ mission is:

“To inspire healthier eating and active living with nourishment for today’s frontier.”

Similarly, WW’s mission, or impact manifesto, is:

“We inspire healthy habits for real life.*
*For people, families, communities, the world – for everyone.”

These two statements exemplify how Kodiak Cakes and WW can go hand in hand when it comes to inspiring a healthier lifestyle.

This past November, WW launched its most groundbreaking program ever, myWW. This program uses WW’s science backed SmartPoints system in conjunction with the latest in behavior change science, giving members three plan options within the program to make it even easier to fit into any lifestyle.

Here’s an overview of the three plans:

Green – a larger daily SmartPoints budget (minimum 30) with over 100 zero-point foods

Blue – a moderate daily SmartPoints budget (minimum 23) with over 200 zero-point foods

Purple – a smaller daily SmartPoints budget (minimum 16) with over 300 zero-point foods

What’s a SmartPoint?

The SmartPoints system is what WW uses to track food. All food has a point value, and the WW app’s database has just about every food product you can imagine. In simplest terms, a food’s SmartPoint value is calculated using calories as a baseline. From there, things like saturated fat and sugar raise the SmartPoint value, while protein lowers it. This is because science tells us that saturated fat and sugar can lead to a higher risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other medical conditions. Protein is used by our bodies to build and repair muscle tissue, among other things, and helps keep you fuller for longer periods of time.

How Do Kodiak Cakes Fit into This Equation?

Kodiak Cakes products are lower in sugar and saturated fat and are protein-packed…a match made in heaven!

For example, here are a few products broken down:

Buttermilk Power Cakes:

  • 5 SmartPoints for ½ cup
  • 2 SmartPoints for ¼ cup

Flavored Flapjack & Waffle Mixes (e.g. Dark Chocolate & Almond Poppyseed):

  • 6 SmartPoints for ½ cup, 3 SmartPoints for ¼ cup

Bear Bites (all flavors):

  • 4 SmartPoints per serving

Homestyle Power Waffles –

  • 6 SmartPoints per 2 waffles

Numbers aside, no one wants to commit to creating a healthier lifestyle for themselves if it means having to give up things they love. I’m a firm believer that you shouldn’t give up anything during a weight loss journey that you’re not willing to give up forever.

Kodiak Cakes products have played a huge part in helping me find healthier alternatives for foods I love. In the beginning, I remember making silver dollar pancakes out of Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes almost every morning. Since then, I’ve become more creative in the kitchen to mix up my routine. I am always looking for hearty, make ahead options like the Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Flapjack Bake recipe below. If anything, I learned you can have your pancakes and eat them, too!
