KODIAK CUPS TUTORIAL
They’re delicious, nourishing, easy, and the ultimate on-the-go breakfast or snack. Kodiak Power Cups® are a favorite for busy moms, training athletes, and anyone crushing that 9-to-5 grind. Plus, every satisfying cup comes with a balanced serving of 100% whole grains and protein for a meal that keeps you fuller, longer. All you gotta do is add 1/4 cup water or milk (1/3 cup for our oatmeal), pop it in the microwave for one minute (30 seconds for our oatmeal), and dig in!
Kodiak Cups: How To Make 'Em
1. Choose your fighter: Pick your fav Kodiak Power Cup, we’ve got tons of yummy options — check ‘em out HERE .
2. Remove the lid & prep: Take off the lid and pour 1/4 cup water (or milk for extra protein) into your cup. For Oatmeal Cups, pour 1/3 cup of your preferred liquid.
3. Stir completely: Stir the contents of your Kodiak Power Cup until thoroughly combined. You don’t want to leave any dry ingredients in your cup (usually at the bottom) because part of your cup will have a chalky texture — which is not a vibe.
4. Microwave your cup!!!: Microwave your cup on high for 60 seconds. We’re yellin’ it from the rooftops cuz some people skip this step, thinking you only need to add water or milk and your cup is ready to go. But Kodiak Power Cups require the use of a microwave. If there are any wet spots left after one minute, microwave for another 10-15 seconds.
5. All about the toppings: Now’s the time to add any toppings you’re craving to your cup and dig in! We’re big fans of fresh fruit or any of our delicious Super Fruit Syrups. But our cups also taste great with Greek yogurt, nut butter, and – even better - on their own!
Tips & Tricks
We’re here to help you make a perfect Kodiak Power Cup. Every. Damn. Time. With that said, there are a few tips and tricks to help you become a pro:
- Too moist or too dry? Let’s talk about it. If your Kodiak Power Cup is too dry, try adding a little more liquid the next time you make one. If it is too moist, try reducing the amount of liquid before mixing the batter. We suggest keeping the consistency of your cup’s batter more sticky than runny to help it rise while cooking in the microwave.
- The elevation of your location affects your Kodiak Power Cups. We test our products at about 7000’ in Park City, UT. If you are cooking at higher elevations, we recommend using cold water or milk when making your Kodiak Cup because the boiling point of water lowers by ~1° F with every 500’ of elevation gained from sea level. To compensate for this, cooking time must increase, which is why we note on our packaging directions that if you see any dime-sized wet spots in your Kodiak Cup after 60 seconds, put your cup back in the microwave and cook for another 10-15 seconds.
- “Can I cook the batter on a skillet?” Yes, absolutely! Our Kodiak Power Cups love to go on adventures with you and are great options for camping or enjoying in the great outdoors — have you tried our nostalgic S’mores Flapjack Cup? Mix the contents as directed and pour onto a hot griddle to cook just like any other pancake!
- “Can I use your flapjack & waffle mix in a mug instead?” Most definitely! Combine about 1/4 cup dry mix and 1/4 cup liquid in a microwave safe mug, but pay attention to the batter’s consistency and adjust the liquid amount as needed. Cook as directed above. Note: mug cakes with our flapjack & waffle mix will not rise as much as our Kodiak Power Cups, but they still taste delicious!
- “Why doesn’t my Kodiak Power Cup look like the picture on your website?” This could be due to a number of things: It could be because of the amount of liquid you used to cook your cup; the type of liquid you used to cook your cup (water, milk, nut milk, etc.); or because of your location’s elevation. In any case, all that matters is that your Kodiak Power Cup tastes good, right?
Oatmeal Power Cups
Our Oatmeal Power Cups are just as delicious as they are nourishing, and we don’t want you to have any mishaps with this yummy option.
There are two easy ways you can make our oatmeal cups: in a microwave OR by steeping your cup’s oats in hot water. Kodiak Oatmeal Power Cups call for slightly more liquid (1/3 cup) than our other options. Depending on which way you choose to cook your oatmeal cup, there are a couple important things to keep in mind.
- Prefer the microwave? If you are going to use a microwave, make sure to use cold water or milk as a base, stir it well, and microwave for only 30 seconds first. If your oatmeal is still too runny, microwave again in 10 second increments until your oatmeal reaches a desired consistency. When oatmeal is microwaved for too long, especially when hot water is used as a base, the oats will rise, overflow, and make a mess in your microwave. If you know, ya know, right? And if you haven’t already experienced this dreadful oatmeal explosion, trust us when we say you want to avoid it at all costs.
- Let it steep. If you choose to steep your oatmeal, make sure that the 1/3 cup water or milk is hot when added to the cup to help the oats cook. Pro tip: we suggest covering your cup for at least two minutes to keep the heat inside while the oats cook.
