Eating healthier doesn’t have to be difficult. In fact, it can actually be as simple as swapping out just one ingredient in a recipe for a healthier one! This week we’re revealing five of our favorite healthy food swaps that we use with our products to make them even better for you. Not only do these five healthy food swap ideas pack in even more nutrients, but they also taste fantastic–keep reading to find out why we like each one!


One of our favorite healthy food swaps is yogurt. Yogurt is a rich source of nutrients—calcium, B vitamins, and trace minerals—and is high in protein, especially if you use Greek yogurt. Protein helps with muscle recovery and repair, regulates appetite, and aids in weight maintenance. Some yogurts also contribute to better digestive health because they contain good bacteria or probiotics. Avocados are a nutrient-dense fruit that we love to use in place of butter in some of our baking mixes. In addition to about 20 different vitamins and minerals, avocados also contains heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and are loaded with fiber that have been attributed to help fight diseases like arthritis, cancer, cataracts, and heart disease. Try using this healthy food swap to make Avocado Brownies by mashing ½ cup ripe avocado to replace the butter called for in our Brownie Mix.


We have all heard the proverb “an apple a day keeps the doctor away.” Turns out there’s a reason this expression has been around for more than a century, and that’s because apples are one healthy food swap that may actually help keep the doctor away! Apples pack in nutrients like soluble fiber, vitamin C, potassium, and polyphenols, which are plant compounds with many antioxidant properties. To help us reap the benefits of apples, we love swapping out ingredients like butter or oil in our mixes with applesauce. Flax seeds are a very versatile ingredient that you can incorportate into almost any dish. In addition to helping lower blood pressure and improve cholesterol levels, flax seeds are a fantastic source of heart-healthy alpha-linolenic acids (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid. If you are a vegetarian or don’t eat fish, flax seeds are one of the best healthy food swaps to help you reach your recommended intake of omega-3s. Have you ever been told to reach for a banana to help with muscle cramps? The nutrients in bananas also make them a healthy food swap that helps moderate blood sugar levels, support heart health, and improve kidney function. Recipes like our Banana Chocolate Chip Muffins are a great example of how to incorporate bananas into many of your favorite recipes. Just substitute oil or butter with mashed bananas and you’ll have yourself a delicious and healthier alternative.
