Buttermilk biscuits are as much a symbol of the pioneers of the west as mountain ranges, buffalo, and red handkerchiefs. They're a rustic must for any breakfast, best served with butter, jam, or a heaping helping of sausage gravy. Give your family a taste of pioneer tradition by making a homemade batch of the warm, fluffy, delicious biscuits.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes
  • 3 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold
  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F
  2. In a large bowl, stir Kodiak Cakes Buttermilk Power Cakes mix, sugar, and baking powder together
  3. Cut the cold butter into cubes and work into the flour by hand until crumbly
  4. Stir in egg and milk until a dough forms
  5. Empty the dough onto a floured surface and roll 1/2" thick
  6. Use a biscuit cutter or drinking glass to cut biscuits from the rolled dough. Place cut biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden
  8. Remove from the oven and brush with melted butter
