Emily Harrington

Tahoe, California

The highs and lows that I experience are not different from what everyone else experiences. I want to be able to tell how hard it was to get to where I am and how hard it still is and how that is also a beautiful process.

Record Time Climbing Golden Gate in El Cap

Meet Emily Harrington

Emily Harrington is a Colorado native, which couldn’t be more fitting since she’s a professional rock climber and adventurer. She discovered climbing at the age of 10 and remembers feeling a sense of belonging. Since then, Emily’s turned her passion for scaling mountain faces and reaching peaks into a career.

Emily is no stranger to conquering her frontier. After three failed attempts of free climbing El Capitan in under 24 hours, on November 4, 2020, she became the 4th woman to achieve this feat in 21 hours, 13 minutes and 51 seconds. She’s a five-time US National Champion sport climber and record-breaker.

Accomplishments:
  • First woman to free climb El Capitan via the Golden Gate route (VI 5.13) in less than 24 hours
  • Multiple 8000m peak attempts/summits - Mt Everest (2012), Makalu
  • Five-time sport climbing US National Champion
  • Free ascent of Golden Gate, Yosemite California (40 pitches, 5.13b)
  • First female ascent of multiple 5.14 sport climbs
  • Winner of the women’s division at Ouray Ice Festival 2012
  • Summited Cho Oyu (sixth tallest peak in the world) in 2016, achieving a speed record (2 weeks, door to door) and complete ski descent from the summit
