HOLIDAY TRADITIONS

Between gift lists, holiday sales, and family time, the holiday season can be a busy time of year. To help ease your stress this season, we put together a list of fun holiday traditions to help you make the most of this magical time of year and get to the core of what the holidays are really about—spending time with the people you love.

GINGERBREAD HOUSES

Building gingerbread houses is one tradition that encompasses the Holiday Spirit through whimsical fun and delicious sweets. You can make gingerbread houses by either baking your own gingerbread or buying a pre-made kit at your local grocery store. But if you’re looking for something simple, fast, and less costly, we recommend using graham crackers in place of actual gingerbread. This makes building the house easier for the kids, but it also leaves more time for the best part of building any gingerbread house—decorating!

CHRISTMAS LIGHTS

Christmas lights shining bright on a frosty December night is nothing short of magical, so don’t skip out on this fun and inexpensive holiday tradition. Discovering places to look at Christmas lights isn’t difficult—all you have to do is follow the lights! Better yet, more and more communities are decorating local parks—and even ponds—with dazzling displays that are free to the public.

ICE SKATING

One way to take your holiday traditions outside is at your local ice-skating rink. Ice skating is a beginner-friendly activity the whole family can enjoy—as long as you’re not too worried about slipping, sliding, and having lots of laughs as you learn! Whether you plan to skate indoors or out, you’ll want to dress warm. We recommend wearing wool because it’s breathable and doesn’t hold moisture from sweat, which can quickly freeze and leave you feeling much colder. In addition to wool layers, we suggest bundling up with a beanie, coat, and pair of mittens to keep you warm out on the ice.

COOKIES & MILK FOR SANTA

Leaving out a cold glass of milk and homemade cookies for Santa on Christmas Eve is a sure-fire way to make Old Saint Nick smile, but if you really want to get on the Big Guy’s good side, we’ll let you in on a little secret: use Kodiak Cakes. In fact, we have it on good authority that Santa is a fan of our Cinnamon Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe. This easy-to-follow recipe is made with our Kodiak Cakes All-Purpose Baking Mix and simple enough to make that even your smallest cubs can help bake Santa some delicious, fresh-baked cookies.

Regardless of what holiday traditions you have planned this year, we hope you’ll share them with your friends and family. And if you do build gingerbread houses, see the lights, go ice skating, or make some Kodiak Cakes cookies for Santa, we’d love to hear about it! So, be sure to share your new holiday traditions with us by tagging @kodiakcakes on Instagram or Facebook!
