Swap out grandma's maple syrup for this homemade Strawberry Syrup. All you'll need is frozen strawberries, a few lemons, and a bit of sugar, plus you can easily add in any berry you may prefer. Raspberries, blueberries, huckleberries, or a combination of them all this syrup goes great on flapjacks, waffles, cheesecakes or even a spoonful straight from the jar.
Ingredients
- 3 cups fresh or frozen strawberries, sliced
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon lemon zest
Directions
- In a medium saucepan, combined sliced strawberries, sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest
- Place over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil, stirring occasionally
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until sauce thickens, stirring occasionally
- Remove from heat and let cool
