What is carbon offsetting?
Carbon offsetting involves calculating the amount of carbon emissions activities, like shipping a package, and then purchasing an instrument that pays for avoiding the same amount of carbon elsewhere in the environment.
Because the earth is one giant carbon sink, removing an equivalent amount of emissions elsewhere in the environment has the same net impact as if your emissions didn't occur. That’s huge! When we reduce or eliminate greenhouse gases, it creates a market that spurs the creation of additional carbon-removal projects.
Why should I purchase carbon offsets?
Many day-to-day activities produce carbon emissions that negatively affect the environment. Your commute to work or school or online shipping orders are just a few activities that carry a carbon impact.
At Kodiak, we believe that humans should do everything we can to reduce our carbon emissions. In order to help you make this impact, we’ve partnered with Cloverly because offsetting is a very effective and realistic way to mitigate the effect of carbon emissions.
How do offsets work?
Cloverly calculates in real time the amount of carbon emissions that generates from your online order from Kodiak based on your location. They then purchase an instrument for avoiding, offsetting, or sequestering the same amount of carbon somewhere else in the environment. Buying an instrument that eliminates greenhouse gases creates a market that spurs creation of additional carbon-removal and carbon-avoidance projects.
