Swoon that special someone with a homemade plate of Heart-Shaped Ravioli. Each ravioli is carefully crafted with whole grains, protein, and a creamy (and dreamy) ricotta filling featuring flavors of zesty Parmesan and fresh basil; or go the extra mile with fillings like tender meat or luxurious lobster. Regardless of how you fill ‘em, serve them hot with velvety tomato sauce and a parmesan sprinkle. Our little secret? It takes just 30 minutes to create some delectable magic in the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • 2 -1/4 cups Kodiak Cakes Whole Wheat, Oat & Honey Flapjack and Waffle Mix
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/3 cup parmesan cheese, shredded
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 jar tomato sauce
  • Parmesan cheese for topping

Directions

  1. In a large bowl, combine Kodiak Cakes Whole Wheat, Oat and Honey Flapjack and Waffle mix and salt
  2. Make a well in the center and crack the eggs into the middle
  3. Use a fork to beat the eggs, slowly incorporating the flour mixture until a dough starts to form
  4. Transfer the dough onto a well-floured surface and knead until smooth. If the dough is sticky, add more flour
  5. Re-flour the surface and roll the dough as thin as possible or roll the dough through a pasta machine
  6. In a medium bowl, stir the ricotta cheese, parmesan, and fresh basil together until combined
  7. Use a small heart cookie cutter to cut hearts out of the dough*
  8. Place 1-2 teaspoon of filling in the center of each heart. Lightly brush egg white around the edges of the hearts and place a second heart over the top. Crimp using a fork
  9. Cook raviolis in boiling water for 2-3 minutes. The raviolis should float to the top
  10. Drain pasta and top with tomato sauce and parmesan cheese

*As an alternative to the cookie cutter method, use a ravioli cutter to form the raviolis
